In 1878, the Mast family opened the first distillery in a town in Germany, Wolfenbüttel, and in 1935 created the first Jägermeister. The production recipe of Jägermeister remains a secret to this day - only 3 people in the world know it. During the 1970s, a disruptive environment prevailed in the USA. As a result, some bartenders from New Orleans decided to differentiate themselves from the crowd and belong to a special club. For the connecting link of this club they chose Jägermeister. By drinking a Jäger, club members acquired something of a secret communication code with each other. The special taste of the drink and the gothic shape of the bottle together with the deer and the cross which are characteristic elements of Jägermeister contributed to this. Thus, Jägermeister started in America as the original shot of bartenders and then spread all over the world.
