The name "vermouth" comes from the German
word for Artemisia (Absinth), which is
one of its components. Today vermouth
defined as a wine flavored with herbs
and spices.
Antonio Benedetto Carpano is the father
and inventor of the first vermouth, in 1786. Ta
"fortified" wines have existed since ancient times
of Hippocrates and the Romans, but Carpano
he was the first to create a real one
"recipe" that could be reproduced with
the same characteristics and taste.
Carpano's original recipe has not changed
and remains a secret to this day.
